HIGOLASER: four-robot door-ring laser cutting with 65%+ lower overall investment
HIGOLASER's multi-robot door-ring laser cutting cell uses custom FASTSUITE software tools for path planning and collision avoidance. The four-robot version cuts a 70-hole door ring in 71 seconds and needs 65% less labour, space and fixtures for the same output.
The customer
Guangdong HIGOLASER Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. specialises in laser processing solutions for lightweight vehicles. Its founding team of more than twenty industry veterans once led the market for robotic 3D laser cutting and has delivered over a thousand 3D cutting systems. HIGOLASER is one of FASTSUITE’s key integrators.
- 2020: China’s first two-robot door-ring cutting cell goes into operation at a leading manufacturer
- 2023: Guangdong HIGOLASER Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. is founded
- 2024: four-robot and six-robot versions and automated lines follow
The challenge
Door rings are cut by several robots working on the same part. Complex path planning and the risk of collisions between robots are the core problems: any path error can mean a crash or a scrapped part.
The FASTSUITE solution
FASTSUITE developed dedicated software tools for HIGOLASER:
- Cutting paths and processes optimised automatically to minimise crossing and interference between robots
- Several robots simulated at once without external tools
- Integration with the digital twin for PLC validation and virtual commissioning
The HIGOLASER multi-robot system comes in two-, four- and six-robot versions for single and double door rings of different sizes; the six-robot version handles door rings up to 3300 × 1600 mm.
Results
For a door ring with 70 small holes, a conventional five-axis machine takes 172 seconds; the HIGOLASER four-robot version needs just 71 seconds, over 50% less cutting time.
For the same output, labour, space and fixture investment falls by more than 65%: loading staff from 12 to 4, floor space from 150 m² to 50 m², fixtures from 6 sets to 2.
Cutting accuracy: locating-hole roundness error ≤ 0.1 mm, other holes ≤ 0.2 mm; hole position error ≤ ±0.1 mm, contour position error ≤ ±0.2 mm.
